Connecting to the eduroam wireless network | Android

Android runs on various devices and each device may vary slightly from the pictures and steps in the article below. The instructions below will guide you through connecting to the Eduroam network at UTK. Also, note that you must first connect to eduroam from your home campus before traveling.

Before you Begin

If you are on Android 10 - You will need to disable the randomize MAC address feature before connecting to eduroam.

Setup the ut-open wireless network - Eduroam setup is more reliable if you have already registered your device for ut-open. If your phone is not yet configured and registered for the ut-open wireless network, we recommend connecting to ut-open, registering your device, and rebooting before proceeding with the instructions. 


  1. Navigate to the ‘Settings’ menu on your Android device.
  2. Click the ‘Wi-Fi’ button towards the top of the menu.

  3. From the list of available networks, tap the ‘eduroam’ network.

  4. A box will appear on the screen. Scroll down inside the box to the fields marked ‘Identity’ and ‘Password.'
  5. Log in with your UT credentials:

      1. Faculty/Staff:
      2. Students:
    2. Password: NetID Password
    3. EAP Method: PEAP
    4. Phase 2 Authentication: MSCHAPV2
    5. On Android 11, under Online Certificate Status select Request Certificate Status.
    6. Domain:
    7. Certificate: Do Not Validate
  6. Once your credentials are entered, click the ‘Connect’ button in the lower right corner of the window.

  7. On the Wi-Fi menu, the word ‘Connected’ should appear beneath the eduroam network ID once you’re are successfully connected.
