Auto-caption and Edit

When uploading new media to Canvas Studio, you will no longer have to request captioning. Studio automatically captions all new media uploaded after March 25, 2024. The time it takes to auto-caption new media depends on the size of the file. Once auto-caption is done processing, complete the following steps to finalize the captions.

  1. Select the three vertical dots on the right and choose Review and Publish.
    • Other options include
      • Download - Create a zip file of the captions that can be opened and edited in a text reader like Microsoft Word.
      • Replace - Upload a transcript of the captions you wish to include on the video.
  2. Scan through the captions to make any edits necessary by selecting the text and making the changes in the text box that opens.
  3. Once completed, choose the green Publish button to the top-right of the captions. Done!

For media uploaded to Canvas Studio before March 25, 2024, you will still need to request captioning. Follow the steps below:

  1. Select the video you wish to caption.
  2. Open Captions and Request for automatic captioning.
  3. Under “Captions Request” on the left side, select the spoken language of the video (Some languages are not available for captioning in Canvas Studio). Select Request.
  4. Canvas Studio will auto-generate captions. This can take several minutes to several hours depending on the length of your video and other factors. You can safely navigate away while this is working.
  5. When Canvas Studio is finished processing the automatic captions, select Review and Publish.
  6. Scan through the captions and make any edits necessary simply by clicking on the text and making changes.
  7. When finished, click the green Publish button to the top-right of the captions. Done!
