When can my students participate in my Online@UT (Canvas) course site?

Canvas Course Start and End Dates

Courses are created two months before the start of every semester. There are no Start and End dates set.

However, as the primary instructor of the course, you have control over the Start and End dates - these dates control student participation in your course site.

If you want your students to participate in the course site before the official first day or beyond two weeks after final grades are submitted, you will have to make adjustments on the Course Details tab of your course Settings:

  1. Click on Settings in the course navigation menu.
     
  2. Change the Start and End Dates to reflect when you want students to have full access to the course.
     
  3. Check the box for Users can only participate in the course between these dates.
     
     
  4. Click on Update Course Details to save your changes. 

In the example above, students will not be able to access the course, even if it is published, until January 11th at 1:00 pm. The students will no longer be able to upload Assignments, participate in Discussions or participate in Conversations after April 30th at 2:00 pm.

After the Course End Date, students will retain read-only access to course materials.
