Canvas: Comparing YuJa Verity's Browser Extension and the Desktop Lockdown Module

Overview

When setting up YuJa Verity settings on a Canvas Quiz, there are two different modalities to choose from: the Browser Extension (available for Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Opera, and Brave) and the Lockdown Module (Desktop App). Read more about what each modality can do and compare their settings for your next quiz or test on Canvas.

Comparing the Modalities

The Browser Extension allows you to apply standard proctoring features, which require test-takers to download the Verity Browser Extension on Chrome, Edge, Brave, or Opera.

The Desktop Lockdown Module allows you to apply advanced proctoring features, which require test-takers to download Verity Lockdown on their devices.

* Note: Test-takers on Chrome OS must use a device with a managed guest session.)

Both modalities do offer many of the same settings, but they differ depending on the level of proctoring needs. (See chart below to compare) Certain settings available for the Browser Extension require students to turn on Incognito Mode and enable the extension for it, or manually disable all browser extensions before the quiz or test and re-enable them after the quiz or test. The Desktop Lockdown Module acts as a browser, so there is no need to turn on Incognito Mode or disable and re-enable all extensions.
