Microsoft 365: Sharing a file from OneDrive or Microsoft Teams

Overview

If you wish to share a specific file from OneDrive or Microsoft Teams with someone else, you have multiple ways to do this. The easiest way is to open the file you want to share and share directly from that file. You can share files with members of the UT community or individuals outside the university.

Instructionssharing a file by share button

  1. Open the file you want to share from OneDrive or MS Teams
  2. In the upper right corner, look for the Share button
    • Tap the Share button and then tap the Share menu option
  3. Type in the email address of the person you wish to share with (note that people outside your organization will include a message to that effect on the screen)
  4. You can either copy the link or hit send.sharing a file to copy or send
    • Copying the link will require you to send the link to the person being shared with either in a chat or separate email.
    • Clicking send will send a message via email to the person that a file has been shared with them. Members outside the organization may need to request a verification code from Microsoft to verify they can open the file. The code will be emailed to them.
