Canvas: Embed Image from User Files

Overview

There are many times when you might want to add an image to Canvas, whether in a discussion forum, a written assignment, or on a wiki page. These steps will help you add an image to your personal file storage in Canvas that you can access anywhere you see the Rich Text Editor.

Instructions

  1. Visit your Canvas account icon in the grey Global Navigation menu underneath the Power T and choose Files.

  2. In your list of files, click the Upload button.

  3. Select the image on your computer you would like to add to your Canvas file repository.

Example: Add Image to a Discussion Board reply

  1. Once you have added the image to your Files in Canvas, navigate to the location you would like to add the image to such as a Discussion Board reply.
  2. Click the Insert link [1]. Navigate to view the Image options [2], then select the User Images option [3].

  3. The Add menu displays image files from your User Files. Click the image file you want to embed. The image will flash before it embeds in the Rich Content Editor.

  4. Your selected image will appear.
  5. To edit the image, click on the image, then click Image Options.

    1. Add alternative text tag to the image [1].
    2. Manage display options for the image [2].
    3. Resize the image [3].
    4. Click Done to save the changes [4].
       
  6. Be sure to click the Reply button to submit your discussion reply.
