Microsoft Teams: Set up a Chat, Phone, or Video meeting with a Small Group

Overview

You can use MS Teams to Chat with one person or more than one person in small groups. These are great for sub-working groups and class project groups.

Note: Group calls via Chat are private and will not show up in Channel history. These are not part of a Team. So if you have a file that is saved in a Microsoft Group, that you want to have this small number of people work on, you'll need to either set up a private Channel in your Team or just link to the file in the Chat.

Instructions

  1. Log in to Office 365 or open the Teams app on your computer or phone.
  2. Select the Chat button on the left side of the page.

  1. Select the group you want to Chat with.
  2. Note: If the group has not yet been created, create a Chat with the person or people you want to talk with by selecting the Start new chat button at the top of the screen and adding in the group member(s).

  1. Rename the group to a specific topic by selecting the pencil icon next to the team members' names. This will help you stay organized with all your Chats.
