How is access to my Online@UT (Canvas) course site(s) controlled?

Access to Online@UT (Canvas) course sites is a multi-step process:

Roughly two months before the start of the semester, Canvas course shells are created based on the list of semester courses identified in Banner.

  • If you are listed as either the Primary Instructor or Secondary Instructor of Record within Banner, then you will see your course shell(s) on the day they are created.
  • If you are not listed as either the Primary Instructor Secondary Instructor of Record, then you will need to contact your department's Banner representative. Your Banner representative will assign you, either as Primary Instructor or Secondary Instructor, to your course(s) within Banner. Your course shell(s) will appear within 24 hours of your Banner assignment.

Any instructors in addition to the Primary and Secondary Instructors are enrolled into the course site by the Primary Instructor of Record.

Course sites are populated with up-to-the-day student enrollment information and are updated each morning.
