Body

Overview

eduroam (education roaming) is the secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community.

Step 1

Make sure to join the eduroam network on UT's campus before you travel. This will allow OIT to assist you if you encounter difficulties, and will increase the security of the system by verifying UT's encryption certificate locally. UT faculty, staff, and students must still register the device on the UT network.  Guests using eduroam will not need to register their computers.

Windows

  1. Select the Network icon on the taskbar, choose eduroam, then select Connect
  2. In the Sign In window, enter your credentials as detailed under the Logging into eduroam section.

macOS

  1. Click macOS Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar, then choose eduroam
  2. Enter your credentials as detailed under the Logging into eduroam section.

Step 2

Logging into eduroam:

  • Faculty and Staff Login: NetID@utk.edu
  • Student Login: NetID@vols.utk.edu
  • Password: Your NetID Password

When connecting to Eduroam for the first time, you will be prompted with a server certificate. Information about the certificate.

Step 3

New Device Registration: If registering the device for the very first time, please restart the device after network registration.

Existing Device Registration: If this device has already been registered when connected to ut-open, there are no additional steps and the setup is complete. (iOS and Android devices will still need to disable Private Addressing as linked below).

iOS and Android OnlyFollow the OIT Knowledge Base instructions to ensure private addressing for eduroam and ut-open are disabled.

Troubleshooting Your Connection

  1. Remember to sign in with your UT email address and NetID password, not just your Netid or an email alias:
    • Faculty and Staff Login: NetID@utk.edu
    • Student Login: NetID@vols.utk.edu
  2. Go to your Wi-Fi settings and forget and re-add the eduroam connection.
  3. Follow the OIT Knowledge Base instructions to ensure private addressing for eduroam and ut-open are disabled.
  4. Register for UT's Network before connecting to eduroam. Connect to the ut-open network to register your device on UT's network. Once registered, you can get connected to eduroam.
  5. Macs: You may need to update your Keychain with your eduroam login information.

Some devices may be incapable of connecting to Eduroam; in that case, they will only see the ut-open network. Remember, ut-open is a non-secure network, similar to what you might use in a restaurant or other public Wi-Fi.
