Microsoft Stream: Edit Your Recording and Embed in Canvas

Overview

Creating a short how-to or informational video is a great feature to add to a course. This article will walk you through the steps to edit your video using Microsoft Stream and then share your video with your Canvas course.

Access your Recording

  1. Select the Chat icon in the left-hand menu.

  1. Navigate to and select your meeting in the Teams Chat panel.

  1. Select the video thumbnail.

 

  1. A new window will open.
  2. Select the Open in Stream icon in the upper right corner of the window. A new browser tab will open.

Trimming Your Video

  1. Select the Trim button in the upper-right corner.

  1. Video Start: Click and drag the left-hand trim arrow to the time when you want your video to begin (everything to the left of this icon will be trimmed from your video).

  1. Video End:  Click and drag the right-hand trim arrow to the time when you want your video to end (everything to the right of this icon will be trimmed from your video).

  • You can also set the time when you want the video to start and end by using the Trim Start and End menu.
  • When trimming is complete, select the check mark.

  1. You will be asked to confirm the edits. Select Confirm.
  2. Additional cuts/trims can be made, if needed.

If you decide later you want to keep the video you trimmed, you can reset the video and your video will revert back to the original length. You may need to refresh the webpage before the original video returns.

 

Editing Your Transcript

Microsoft Teams meeting transcripts are generally accurate; all transcripts/captions should be reviewed.

  1. Select the Transcript icon from the right-hand menu.

  1. Play the video and listen to the audio. The transcript will become shaded as words are spoken. If there is a line that needs editing

a. Hover over the line in the transcript.

b. Select Edit.

c. Revise the transcript.

d. Select Done.

Embedding Your Video in Canvas

  1. Select Share in the upper right corner of the Stream window.
  2. Select Embed Code.

  1. Adjust Settings as needed.
  2. Select Copy Embed Code.

 

  1. Return to your Canvas Course page and Rich Text Editor and place the cursor where the video will be placed.
  2. Select Insert.
  3. Select Embed.

  1. Paste the Embed Code into the entry box.
  2. Select Submit.

  1. The video should be visible in the Rich Text Editor.
  2. Select Save at the bottom of the Canvas Page.

 

Notes:

  • Your video has a default expiration date – you will need to change this if you want to keep the video long-term.
  • Your video is stored in your OneDrive.
    • Select My Files.
    • Select Recordings.
