FAQ: Transitioning From Google Services

All faculty, staff, and students have access to Microsoft services. Go to https://office.com to get started. You can save files to your OneDrive, use the online web apps to create new documents, spreadsheets, and presentations, create Teams for collaboration, create Surveys to collect information, and more. 

All Google apps that use your UT email account for authentication are impacted by this change.

Yes, if you are using Gmail for your UT email account, OIT will move your email to Outlook. The email migration is planned for 2025; OIT will contact everyone impacted by this change with additional information. 

• Faculty and Staff – OIT will copy files saved in your Google Drive and Shared Drives to Microsoft OneDrive and Teams 

• Students – You can use Google Takeout to export your Google Drive and import it into your personal Google account. 

Access to many of the Google apps will be unavailable at the end of this transition. OIT understands that for some university business, we will need to carefully consider options related to Google Analytics and YouTube. Once additional information is available, we will contact UTK departments regarding their next steps. 

No, all UT email addresses will remain the same. After the email migration, all new emails sent to your UT email address will be delivered to your Microsoft Outlook account. 

If you do not need any of your email moved from Gmail to Outlook, sign up to switch to Outlook today. 

No, OIT will move emails from Gmail to Outlook. 

OIT recommends that Official UT channels be converted to a brand account; additional information about this process will be available soon. You do not need to take any action until the new guidelines are available. 

Non-university business YouTube channels should be converted to a personal account.

No, forms will not be transferred. You can recreate your forms using the Microsoft Forms platform and export any existing data and save it to your OneDrive.
