Overview
Some Outlook for Windows users may be unable to preview RingCentral MP3 voicemail attachments. Outlook for Mac is unaffected.
We have experienced mixed results from the instructions below. Sometimes the preview handler checkbox for MP3, Media, or Windows Media Player does not appear. We currently do not have a fix for this scenario.
Resolution
- Check to see if Outlook is set to allow MP3 or Media Attachments.
- Open Outlook, then go to File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Attachment Handling. Outlook will display a list of programs that are allowed to be previewed. Look for Media or Windows Media Player Rich Preview Handler.
- If checked to allow, then try the following:
- Save one of the .mp3 files from a voicemail to your computer.
- Right-click the saved file, hover over Open With, and then select Choose another app.
- Check the box for Always use this app to open .mp3 files and select Windows Media Player.
- Click OK.
- Close Outlook.
- Reopen Outlook; your voicemails should now play inside Outlook.
