Activate the UT-Licensed Version of Windows or Office from Off-Campus

Overview

To activate your copy of Windows or Office from off-campus, you will need to connect to the Network Connect VPN. This must be done once every 180 days.

Activation

After connecting to the VPN, Windows and Office will activate on their own after a period of time. 

To force the immediate activation of Windows

1. To check activation status in Windows 10, select the Start button, and then select Settings  > Update & Security and then select Activation.  Your activation status will be listed next to Activation.
2. It will either say "Windows is Activated" or you will have a link to attempt online activation.
3. Click the link and it should report back that Activation was successful. Sometimes it requires a couple of attempts before it is able to communicate with the server depending on the speed of your connection.

To force the immediate activation of Office

1. Open an Office application such as Word.
2. Office should automatically activate.
