IRIS: Protecting Your Password

Remember to safeguard your password when working with IRIS. Since the IRIS password is synced with the NetID password, a compromise could allow someone to log in as you to a number of university systems.

Some practical guidelines to follow include:

  • Do not give your password out to anyone – over the phone, in person, etc.
  • Do not include your password in email.
  • Do not write your password down, and do not keep a written password taped on your monitor, underneath your keyboard, in your desk drawer, etc. where it can be easily found.
  • If you have previously shared your password so someone can approve IRIS workflow items while you are out, you should set up a substitute instead. (For instructions, access IRIS Help and search for “substitute”).

These practical tips warn against actual behavior we have seen in regards to IRIS passwords in the past.

If you do think your password has been compromised, please reset your NetID password as soon as possible.
