Zoom: Troubleshoot Webcam Issues

If your webcam is not working in your meeting, please try the following troubleshooting steps.

  1. Make sure the webcam is plugged in and turned on. Check the front of the webcam for a broadcast indicator or power light.
  2. Locate the webcam icon on the Zoom meeting toolbar. If the icon has a red bar, the webcam is not activated. Select the webcam icon once to activate the broadcast.
  3. On the meeting toolbar, select the chevron icon next to the video (webcam) symbol. Choose from the available options to test or configure the webcam. Verify the correct device is selected.

Please keep in mind that meeting leaders may deactivate microphones and webcams at any time during the meeting. If you think this is the case, use the Chat window to ask for permission to use the webcam from the meeting leader.

Best practices tips for engaging a webcam in a Zoom session:

  • If you have an external, USB webcam, plug it into the computer before joining the Zoom session.
  • Make sure that all other programs that utilize a webcam are not using the webcam at the time.
