The leader who schedules and starts the meeting is the leader of record, or host. The host may promote any participant who is currently present in the meeting to the role of co-host or host in real-time.
Please keep the following in mind.
- While there can be only one host of a meeting at a time, there may be several co-hosts.
- If the host (leader of record) promotes a participant a the host role in the meeting, the leader may re-claim the host role at any time.This option is available on the Participants menu for the leader of record via the Claim Host icon.
- In the most recent versions of Zoom, a co-host and an alternative host may manage Breakout Rooms.
Roles within the meeting include,
- A participant is an attendee in the meeting or online classroom. Participants may access their microphones and webcams, and may engage the Share Screen, unless the leader, co-host, or alternative host has removed access to these tools. Participants cannot record the session, by default.
- A leader/host is the user who schedules and starts the meeting. This role automatically has access to all meeting tools and permissions.
- A co-host is a participant who has been promoted to the co-host role in real-time. A co-host may manage all tools and permissions, including access to the chat, microphones, and webcams.
- An alternative host is a user who has been added to the session with this role prior to the start of the session. An alternative host may start the session with all leader/host controls, and may promote other attendees to co-host in real-time.
