What is MySQL?

MySQL is a popular open source SQL database management system. It is often used as a free back-end database for many web and other open source applications.

OIT provides a MySQL database service  for customers who need a MySQL database. OIT performs normal hardware and operating system administration on those servers, including backups and account management.  For assistance using MySQL, please submit a ticket via the OIT Helpdesk.  Depending on the nature of the assistance needed OIT's Service Level Manager may contact you to discuss your needs.

If you find that the public-service MySQL offering does not meet your needs for enterprise use, please contact the OIT Helpdesk to setup a conversation with the OIT Associate CIO.  The ACIO can discuss supported full-service alternatives to this public timeshare offering.

NOTE: The service may not be used to store sensitive data (e.g., HIPAA, FERPA, PCI, etc.), nor should it be used to store data needed by high profile applications.
