Academic Coursework Linux Environment

Volweb for Academic Coursework

OIT provides virtual server space for active faculty and students to build websites for coursework. Sites hosted in this environment are accessible from the UTK campus network or via the VPN, but are not publicly available.

The Academic Linux Environment is a robust, full-stack LAMP service running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, which includes:

  • Internal websites hosted on Volweb (http://volweb.utk.edu/)
  • 1 GB quota
  • Various programming languages
  • Apache
  • Access to a MySQL database service

After creating an Academic Linux account, UT students can build websites, compile programs, edit files, and more. Your Academic Linux/VolWeb account will be deleted at the end of the academic term.
