Duo two-factor authentication is an extra layer of account security. It requires you to confirm your identity using your Login credentials and a personal device when trying to access University systems.
OIT recommends using the Duo Mobile App on your smartphone for two-factor authentication. Instructions for setting up your smartphone are available in the OIT Knowledge Base. However, If you do not have a smartphone, active Knox-area faculty, staff, students, retirees, and alumni may request a hardware token for use with Duo two-factor authentication. Pricing and eligibility details are below.
Pricing and Eligibility for Legacy Hardware Tokens
Note: Beginning on August 4, OneIT will no longer distribute legacy hardware tokens. We recommend purchasing a FIDO security key instead. These keys can be purchased from VolTech, Amazon, Best Buy, and other retailers. We have
information about the new FIDO security keys in the OIT Knowledge Base.
FIDO Token Eligibility
- Students without a compatible smartphone are eligible to receive one free FIDO token. If the token is lost or damaged, replacements must be purchased.
- Staff, faculty, alumni, and retirees are not eligible for a free token and must purchase one as described above.
Staff/Faculty
- Staff and Faculty are no longer eligible for a free token.
- All tokens must be purchased via Departmental charge via Pinnacle.
- There are 2 options:
- Token Only: $10
- Token + Shipping via FedEx: $22
- Replacement Exceptions:
- Dead Battery – OIT will replace the token at no cost.
- Destroyed/Lost/Damage – The department will need to purchase a new token from VolTech, located in the Student Union on Level G3.
Students/Retirees/Alumni
- Students, retirees, and alumni can receive one token at no cost.
- Replacement Exceptions:
- Dead Battery – OIT will replace the token at no cost.
- Additional Token /Destroyed / Lost / Damaged – The user will need to purchase a new token from VolTech, located in the Student Union on Level G3.
