Canvas Catalog: Enroll in a Course

This article provides instructions for:


UTK users and current guests (non-UTK users with an existing guest account):

  1. Visit UT Canvas Catalog and select the course of interest, OR follow the link shared by the instructor. The course listing page will be displayed.
  2. Select the Enroll Now button. A Welcome page is displayed.
  3. Select UTK users and current guests, log in here! You will be presented with two login options.
    • Log in with UTK NetID – – UTK users, enter your UTK NetID and password. All UTK faculty, staff, and students automatically receive a UT account in Canvas Catalog. Note that these accounts are created at the beginning of each month. If you are a UTK user and have trouble logging in, please contact the OIT HelpDesk.
    • Log in without UTK NetID – – Non-UTK users, enter the email address and password you used to create your UT Canvas Catalog guest account.
  4. Select your login option and follow the instructions on the screen. After successful login, the Checkout page will be displayed.
    • To enroll in a Free course:
      • Select the Enroll button.
    • To enroll in a Fee-based course:
      • Enter a Promotion Code if you have one and select Apply.
      • Select Pay and Enroll to complete your enrollment. You will be presented with a secure payment page. Follow the prompts on the screen to complete your payment.
  5. Upon successful enrollment, a confirmation message will be displayed on your screen and a Catalog Enrollment Confirmation email will be sent to the email address associated with your account.
  6. Select Catalog Student Dashboard or Go to Courses. The Student Dashboard page lists courses in which you are enrolled. For more information about this page, review the guide called How do I use the Student Dashboard in Catalog?
  7. Select the Begin Course button next to the course in which you enrolled. You will be taken to the Canvas course. Begin learning!

To access the course in which you are enrolled:

  1. Visit UT Canvas Catalog.
  2. Select Login or Create Guest Account in the upper right-hand corner.
  3. Select your login option and follow the instructions on the screen:
    • Log in with UTK NetID – UTK users, enter your UTK NetID and password.
    • Log in without UTK NetID – Non-UTK users, enter the email address and password you used to create your UT Canvas Catalog account.
  4. Upon successful login, you will access the Student Dashboard page that lists courses in which you are enrolled. Student Dashboard is also available by selecting Student Dashboard in the drop-down menu next to your name in the upper right-hand corner.   5. Select the Resume Course button next to the course title. You will be taken to the Canvas course.

Non-UTK users, please create a guest account to enroll in a course/program:

Step 1. Access the course, or program, listing page

Visit UT Canvas Catalog and select the course or program of interest, OR follow the link shared by the instructor.

Step 2. Select Enroll

Select the Enroll Now button on the listing page. A Welcome page is displayed, along with the Create a Guest Account form.

Step 3. Fill out the Create a Guest Account form 

Fill out the Create a Guest Account web form and select Register New Guest Account.

Important! Canvas Catalog will automatically send email to the email address indicated in your account registration. You need to locate the email, complete your guest registration and create a password for your guest account.

NOTE: After you press "Register New Guest Account" button, the Checkout page displays the course and the Enroll button. Do not select Enroll button yet. You need to complete your guest registration in the email.
If you select the Enroll button, the message will be displayed "You have successfully enrolled in the following listing. Go to your Catalog Student Dashboard to begin the course." When you select "Go to Courses," you will be presented with the message, "Almost There! A confirmation email has been sent. Locate it and follow the instructions to complete the registration process. Please check you email account now."

 

Step 4. Access your email and select Complete Registration.

Check your email for a Welcome to Catalog message stating that an account has been created for you. In the email, select Complete Registration.

 

The link will open the Canvas Catalog account registration page. Your login ID is the email you indicated in your guest account registration.

 

Step 5. Create a password for your guest account

  • Enter a password of your choosing.
  • Select your Time Zone.
  • Select Register.

 

Step 6. Access the Checkout page

After successful registering, you will be presented with the Checkout page. If the checkout page is not displayed, select "Go to Checkout" at the top of the page.

Step 7. Enroll in the course

  • To enroll in a Free course:
    • Select the Enroll button.
  • To enroll in a Fee-based course:
    • Enter a Promotion Code if you have one and select Apply.
    • Select Pay and Enroll to complete your enrollment. You will be presented with a secure payment page. Follow the prompts on the screen to complete your payment.

The screenshot below shows a free course enrollment option.

Upon successful enrollment, a confirmation message will be displayed on your screen, and a Catalog Enrollment Confirmation email will be sent to the email address associated with your account.

Step 8. Access Student Dashboard

Select Catalog Student Dashboard or Go to Courses. The Student Dashboard page lists all the courses in which you are enrolled. For more information about this page, review the guide called How do I use the Student Dashboard in Catalog?

 

Your course will appear under the In Progress tab.

Step 9. Access your Canvas course

Select the Go to Course (or Begin Course) button next to the course in which you enrolled. You will be taken to the Canvas course.

Step 10. Begin learning! You are now in your Canvas course
