IRIS: Seeing a Transaction's Technical Name

All IRIS transactions have a unique technical name made up of a combination of letters and numbers, which are also referred to as transaction codes. For example, the transaction to display a requisition is ME53N, but the transaction to display an invoice waiting for approval is FBV3, and the transaction to view employee details is PA20.

You can see the unique technical names on the SAP Easy Access menu – but only if you have made the necessary setting on your own profile. If you have never done this before, it is STRONGLY recommended that you do so. Turning on technical names can help ensure you are in the proper transaction when navigating from the menu.

Take the following steps to turn on technical names so that they appear on the menu:

  • On the main menu bar, click Extras >> Settings.
  • On the pop-up window, click the box next to Display technical names. A
checkmark will appear in the box.
  • Click Continue in the lower left-hand corner of the dialog box to accept
the new setting and return to the menu.
  • Once the setting has been made, the menu will collapse, and when you open it again, you will see the technical names.

Tip: When you know a transaction code, it can be useful for navigating directly to a transaction rather than navigating via the menu. You can do this by typing the technical name/transaction code into the command field at the top of the screen. For more information, see the "How can I quickly navigate between transactions" FAQ.
