PowerPoint: Record Your Screen

Overview

You can record your screen using PowerPoint and then save that file as an MP4 movie. Please note, different versions of PowerPoint have different options. Your version may look different than the instructions here. For a link to Microsoft's instructions on screen recording, go here.

Instructions

  1. Open a blank PowerPoint.
  2. Go to the insert menu and look for Screen Recording in the Media section.

  1. Choose Select Area and draw a broken red line box around the area you want to record. 

  1. Press Record, you will see a 3, 2, 1 countdown.
    Note: PowerPoint automatically records your cursor and audio. You do not need to press those buttons when recording.
  2. To Pause or Stop your recording, move your mouse to the top of the screen to show the Control Dock with your recording options.
    Note: You can also pin this to the top of your screen by selecting the pin icon in the bottom right.

  1. When you stop the recording, your movie will be embedded automatically into the blank PowerPoint slide.
  2. Right-click on the movie on your PowerPoint slide.
  3. Choose Save Media As
  4. This will automatically give you the option of .MP4 and will let you choose where you want to save the file.
  5. Click Save.
