T-Storage: October 13, 2021 Changes to T-Storage Home Areas (H:)

Tags TStorage

Overview

As part of efforts to reduce costs by minimizing on-premise T-Storage use in favor of cloud storage, OIT will soon be setting a lower 1GB home area personal quota for new users as well as existing ones currently using less than 750MB. And as of 10/13, new computers that users haven’t been on before will not auto-map the H: drive, though it will persist on other computers and can be manually mapped if needed. These changes will not affect departmental I: drive areas.

OIT encourages the use of cloud-based OneDrive for Business or Google Drive storage due to its advantages such as real-time collaboration, automated backup, versioning, and accessibility on all internet-connected devices. More information about both is available on the OIT File Sharing and Storage service web page.

Information

  • The default quota of 50GB will be reduced to 1GB
    • Users currently using more than 750MB will keep the 50GB quota if they don’t already have a custom quota
    • OIT will allow exemptions for use cases where OneDrive or Google Drive aren’t appropriate.
  • Auto-mapping of H: will be removed
  • NO changes to the Departmental Areas (I:  Drives) at this time.
