Overview
OneIT provides monthly AI Hub usage allowances to support academic, research, and university business activities. OneIT sets the default allowances based on current AI Hub usage and will monitor usage to adjust them as needed.
An AI Hub usage allowance is the amount of AI services available to a user each month. Allowances are expressed as dollar values, and the AI Hub displays the percentage of the monthly allowance used. For example, a user with a $50 monthly allowance who uses $25 in AI services will see 50% usage.
Default Monthly Allowances
The following allowances are provided automatically:
- Faculty and staff: $50 per month
- Undergraduate and graduate students: $20 per month
Most users will not need to take action. These allowances are intended to support typical academic, research, and university business use.
Need Additional AI Hub Usage?
Departments at all University of Tennessee campuses may fund additional AI Hub usage allowances for employees, graduate and undergraduate student assistants, and sponsored users who need more than the standard amount. Expanded allowances are available to employees and must be funded by their department. Employees may submit a request online, and all requests require approval from a Dean, Director, or Department Head.
Cost-Effective Option for Heavy Claude Users
If you primarily need an increased allowance for Claude, consider requesting an Anthropic for Higher Education license through OneIT. For users with high token usage, a dedicated Claude license is often significantly more cost-effective than expanding your general UT AI Hub monthly allowance.
