Zoom: Advice if Zoom Bombing Occurs

In the event of an unauthorized intrusion during the meeting, we ask that the meeting host report the incident by notifying the OIT HelpDesk and providing details related to the meeting. Should the incident be considered abusive or criminal in nature, the instructor or host must report the incident to the UT Police Department for investigation.

  • If intruders disrupt your class, hosts can quickly select the Host tools icon on the meeting toolbar, and then choose Suspend All Participant Activities. All participant activity will immediately be silenced and full control provided to the host (detailed instructions).

For more information on how to help prevent a Zoom Bombing, please review the "Zoom Precautions - Best Practices to Avoid a Zoom Bombing" section of our getting started information page. Host tips include adding security options to the meeting and limiting participant access to certain features in the meeting.

  • For example, when you schedule your class meeting, consider the following options:
    • Start the meeting with the host’s video on.
    • Start the meeting with the participants’ video off.
    • Mute participants upon entry.
    • Apply one or more of Zoom's security options to the meeting.
