Duo 2FA: FAQs about Two-Factor for Alumni & Retirees

The University is responsible for keeping our people and information safe and secure. This includes anyone with a UT email account. As we continue efforts to protect the University community, the UT administration decided to implement security changes for alumni, retirees, and emeritus faculty at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, including the Institute of Agriculture and the Space Institute. 

Unfortunately, there are accounts where bad actors have the account password. If we add two-factor without also requiring a password change, the bad actor can add their phone to a compromised person's account.

Updating your password and adding two-factor is just like adding a deadbolt to your front door and changing the locks to keep potential bad people out.

Active Emeritus Faculty: Request a token by contacting the HelpDesk. 

All other Alumni and Retirees: You may purchase a hardware token at VolTech in the Student Union or contact the OIT HelpDesk to request a temporary bypass code.
