What is "Express Mode" and which iPhones support it?

Express Mode is turned on by default when you add your Volcard to Apple Wallet and allows quick access to your VolCard when accessing a building, making payments, or authenticating with your ID.

Hold the top of your iPhone or the display of your Apple Watch within a few centimeters of the middle of the card reader until you feel a vibration. You'll see Done and a checkmark on the display.

Your iPhone or Apple Watch must be turned on, but it doesn't have to be connected to a network. You don't need to validate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode, and you don't need to wake or unlock your device or open an app.

On iPhone XS or newer, Express Mode with power reserve is available for up to five hours when your iPhone needs to be charged. You can press the side button to check if Express Mode is available when your iPhone needs to be charged. Doing this often may significantly reduce the power reserve for Express Mode. If you choose to power off your iPhone, this feature will not be available.

Express Mode is not available on iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus.

With an iPhone 6s or 6s Plus, how do I access my VolCard via Apple Wallet?

  1. Double-click the Home button.
  2. Tap your default payment card and select your VolCard.
  3. Use Touch ID or your passcode to authenticate.
  4. Hold the top of iPhone 6s or 6s Plus near the contactless reader.

Why doesn't my VolCard show in my iPhone Apple Wallet after being added?

When using Express Mode (iPhone 7 or later), your VolCard will not be displayed with other cards in Apple Wallet for security reasons.

You can view your VolCard details, including account balances, on your iPhone by opening the Apple Wallet app or navigating to Settings > Apple Wallet > VolCard

Can I use Apple VolCard ID if my iPhone has a dead battery?

On iPhone XS or later, Express Mode with power reserve is available for up to five hours after the device’s battery needs to be charged.

You can press the side button to check if Express Mode is available when your iPhone needs to be charged. Doing this often may significantly reduce the power reserve for Express Mode. If you choose to power off your iPhone, this feature will not be available.
