What are the eligibility requirements to use VolCard via Apple Wallet?
- Must be an active UTK Faculty, Staff, or Student.
- Must have a profile picture on file with the VolCard office.
Faculty and Staff can add their Volcard to their Apple Wallet. We are upgrading the card readers for building access. Once a building has been upgraded, you can use your Apple Wallet for access. Faculty and Staff can use their Apple Wallet in the dining facilities in place of their VolCard.

- Apple Watch 3 or later, watchOS 6 or later
What is "Express Mode" and which iPhones support it?
Express Mode is turned on by default when you add your Volcard to Apple Wallet and allows quick access to your VolCard when accessing a building, making payments, or authenticating with your ID.
Hold the top of your iPhone or the display of your Apple Watch within a few centimeters of the middle of the card reader until you feel a vibration. You'll see Done and a checkmark on the display.
Your iPhone or Apple Watch must be turned on, but it doesn't have to be connected to a network. You don't need to validate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode, and you don't need to wake or unlock your device or open an app.
On iPhone XS or newer, Express Mode with power reserve is available for up to five hours when your iPhone needs to be charged. You can press the side button to check if Express Mode is available when your iPhone needs to be charged. Doing this often may significantly reduce the power reserve for Express Mode. If you choose to power off your iPhone, this feature will not be available.
Express Mode is not available on iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus.
With an iPhone 6s or 6s Plus, how do I access my VolCard via Apple Wallet?
- Double-click the Home button.
- Tap your default payment card and select your VolCard.
- Use Touch ID or your passcode to authenticate.
- Hold the top of iPhone 6s or 6s Plus near the contactless reader.
Why doesn't my VolCard show in my iPhone Apple Wallet after being added?
When using Express Mode (iPhone 7 or later), your VolCard will not be displayed with other cards in Apple Wallet for security reasons.
You can view your VolCard details, including account balances, on your iPhone by opening the Apple Wallet app or navigating to Settings > Apple Wallet > VolCard
Can I use Apple VolCard ID if my iPhone has a dead battery?
On iPhone XS or later, Express Mode with power reserve is available for up to five hours after the device’s battery needs to be charged.
You can press the side button to check if Express Mode is available when your iPhone needs to be charged. Doing this often may significantly reduce the power reserve for Express Mode. If you choose to power off your iPhone, this feature will not be available.
How many devices can I use my VolCard within Apple Wallet?
You can use your VolCard via Apple Wallet on up to two different types of iOS devices using the same Apple ID.
Currently, iPhone and Apple Watch are the only two devices that support your VolCard via Apple Wallet.
How do I verify my Apple Watch device version?
The Series # for your Apple Watch can be found on the back of the Watch.
Note: Series 0 Apple Watch is not eligible for this program; Series 1 and 2 will be supported soon.

Can I use VolCard in Apple Wallet without a cellular signal?
VolCards in Apple Wallet can be used even if your iPhone or Apple Watch does not have network connectivity, as the VolCard is stored on your device.

What is Mobile_ID?
Mobile ID is an initiative of the VolCard Office where your smartphone can take on the functionality of your VolCard. Anywhere you could swipe a card, you will be able to use your smartphone.
Does having my VolCard in Apple Wallet cost anything?
No. The service is provided at no additional cost.
Is a VolCard photo required?
Yes, a photo is required for eligibility.
Is this just for students?

What is required to authenticate to the GET Mobile app?
You will be required to log in with your NetID and Password in order to add the Volcard to your digital wallet.
What if I have a passcode on my phone, will I have to enter it every time?
If you are using express mode, you do not need to authenticate via passcode or Touch/Face ID.
If you are not using express mode, you will be required to authenticate via passcode or Touch/Face ID each time you access your VolCard using Apple Wallet.
Note: Express mode is turned on by default.
How do I use VolCard or Dining Dollars currency on my account from my phone?
- Using a new VolCard – Once you have set up your VolCard in your Apple Wallet, you can either tap your device on the payment terminal OR you can continue to use the swipe method.
- VolCard on Apple Wallet – If you only have your VolCard via the Apple Wallet, you can tap your device on the payment terminal.
Will it work with off-campus merchants?
Yes, you can use your iOS device at off-campus merchants.
