Downloading Microsoft Office

Overview

This article explains how eligible students, faculty, and staff can obtain Microsoft Office through the UT Knoxville resources. It applies to users who need to download and install Microsoft Office on personal or university-owned computers. Additional information about Microsoft Office is available at http://oit.utk.edu/proplus.

This article provides guidance on software access and installation. It does not provide troubleshooting for Microsoft Office licensing, activation, sign-in, or document editing issues.

Students

Download Microsoft Office for Personal Devices

Active, enrolled students are eligible to install Microsoft Office on up to five personally owned computers through their UTK Microsoft 365 account.

1. Sign in to your UTK Microsoft 365 account.
2. Select Install Office to download Microsoft Office. 

Obtain Additional Microsoft Office Licenses

Students who require more than five Microsoft Office installations may purchase additional licenses through VolTech.

Faculty and Staff

Download Microsoft Office for Personal Devices

Most active faculty and staff are eligible to install Microsoft Office on up to five personally owned computers through their UTK Microsoft 365 account.

1. Sign in to your UTK Microsoft 365 account.
2. Select Install Office to download Microsoft Office.
3. If you do not see the Install Office option, verify your Microsoft 365 Apps eligibility.

Download Microsoft Office for University-Owned Computers

Microsoft Office for Windows and Mac can be downloaded and installed on university-owned equipment through the OIT Software Distribution Website.

Determine Whether a User Is Eligible for Microsoft Office Downloads

Full details about Microsoft Office eligibility are online at Microsoft 365 Eligibility.

The Microsoft 365 Apps offering generally applies to:

• Active enrolled students
• Most active faculty
• Most active staff

The offering does not include:

• Emeritus faculty
• Retired faculty
• Sponsored users
