Overview
UTK students and faculty have access to Microsoft software through the Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching program. This software is licensed for academic use only and may be used by:
- Students who are actively enrolled and attending courses at UT that lead to academic credit, certification, or a degree.
- Faculty who are teaching courses, assisting with courses, labs, or programs, or conducting non-commercial research.
Please see Microsoft's Azure Dev Tools For Teaching license agreement for allowed uses and other conditions related to these software packages. You are solely responsible for ensuring compliance with the license terms.

*Starting April 1, 2024, Windows 10 and Windows 11 are included with this program.
Note: Access to Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching is cleared at the beginning of every academic calendar year (August).
How to Sign Up
- Request access to Azure Dev Tools by either submitting a form online at help.utk.edu or by calling the HelpDesk at (865) 974-9900.
- Once your request is complete, go to https://signup.azure.com/studentverification?offerType=3 to sign up. Microsoft recommends using a private/incognito browser.
- Enter your UT email address (NetID@vols.utk.edu or netid@utk.edu) and NetID password.
- On the next screen, complete the Academic Verification.
- In the box under School Name type Knoxville and select The University of Tennessee-Knoxville (Knoxville, TN).

- Enter your date of birth.
- Complete the human verification and click Next.
- Click the box next to I agree to the subscription agreement, Azure Dev Tools for Teaching agreement. Then, click Verify academic status and accept terms.

- The next page will be the Education Hub. Click Software located on the left-hand side of the page and search for the software title.

- Click the software and the View key and Download button should be available on the right side of the page.
Accessing Software through Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching
- Visit https://azureforeducation.microsoft.com/devtools.
- Click Sign In.
*Sign in using your UT credentials, authenticating with your NetID password via Azure.
- Once signed in, choose the Software option on the left to view the available software.
- Select the desired software to open the installation options.
- In general, each piece of software will have a download option and a license key.
*Install the software and have the license key handy when launching the software for the first time.

Scope of this List of Software
This list applies ONLY to software available through Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching. It does NOT apply to any other Microsoft licensing programs offered by UT — including Microsoft 365, standard Azure subscriptions, Volume Licensing, or other student/faculty software benefits. Do not use this list to answer questions about software availability outside of the Azure Dev Tools for Teaching program.

Installing Microsoft Project Through the Azure Dev Tools for Teaching Subscription
NOTE: The online version of MS Project for UT cannot be used to create new projects. The online version is limited to viewing projects that have already been created or are being added. The desktop client for MS Project is needed to create a new project. This Project installation guide applies ONLY to software available through Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching. It does NOT apply to any other Microsoft licensing programs offered by UT.
- Visit https://azureforeducation.microsoft.com/devtools.
- Sign in using your UT credentials, authenticating with your NetID password via Azure.
- Navigate to the MS Project software to install.
- Click Software.
- Choose MS Project Professional.
- Click Download.
- Click View Key to copy the required product key.
- Once the Office installer finishes, launch Project and insert the product key when prompted.
- Microsoft Project is ready to use.
