Microsoft Teams: Posting a Message to a Channel

Overview

Every channel in every Team starts with a Posts tab. Think of this tab as a message board for all members of the channel. Posts are visible messages to all members of the channel and are structured as threaded conversations pertaining to the focus of the channel.

Instructions

  1. Select the channel where you want to post a message.

  2. Click the New Conversation button.

  3. Enter the information you want to post to the channel:

When making a post you will find an assortment of objects you can include in your post. The icons at the bottom offer you Text Formatting, Adding Importance, Attaching Files, and more.

  • Attach file – allows a file to be attached to the post, the file is also added to the Files tab for that channel
  • Emoji – allows for emojis to be used in the post
  • Stickers – allows for digital stickers to be used in the post
  • Praise – allows channel members to praise other channel members

When formatting your post, additional options are available such as:

a. New conversation or announcement – an announcement allows for bigger text and title options to stand out more

b. Everyone can reply or only the owner and moderators can reply

c. Post in multiple channels – allows the user make the same post in multiple channels instead of creating the same post multiple times in different channels
