Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • What services does Student Computer Support offer for students who need to run Windows on their Macs? 
    • Student Computer Support provides full support for Windows 10 on a Mac using either Bootcamp or Parallels.
    • Note: Bootcamp is available on 2012-2021 Intel-based Macs. Parallels is a separate product for purchase.
  • What support does Student Computer Support offer for computers configured in a foreign language?
    • OIT will provide best-effort support for computers configured in a foreign language.
  • What support does Student Computer Support offer for computers running Parallels?
    • OIT will provide full support for Macs running Parallels.  Students must download the Parallels app and the Windows 10 ISO before dropping off the computer. Students must also provide the Parallels product code. Parallels can be installed on M1/M2 Macs; however, Microsoft does not have a freely available version of Windows ARM that is required for Parallels to work. 
  • What must I provide when picking up my computer at the OIT Service Center?
    • For security reasons, a valid photo ID must be provided when picking up your computer at the OIT Service Center.  If another individual need to pick up your machine, you must specify this at the point of drop off or respond through email to your ticket specifying an alternative person.   
    • If another individual is given permission to pick up your computer, they must also present a photo ID at the time of pickup.
