Overview
BitLocker recovery is the process by which you can restore access to a BitLocker-protected drive in the event that you cannot unlock the drive normally.
Procedure
For a Personal Email Account:
If your computer was set up with a personal Microsoft account, you can obtain BitLocker keys for Windows computers by signing in to https://aka.ms/myrecoverykey with your Microsoft 365 credentials.
- Login to https://aka.ms/myrecoverykey
- Find your computer and then select Get BitLocker keys.
- If your computer is not listed, contact the HelpDesk at 865-974-9900.
For a School Email Account:
If your computer was set up with a school Microsoft account, you can obtain BitLocker keys for Windows computers by signing in to https://aka.ms/aadrecoverykey with your Microsoft 365 credentials.
- Login to https://aka.ms/aadrecoverykey.
- Find your device name, and then you will see your recovery key labeled "get BitLocker keys."
- If your computer is not listed, contact the HelpDesk at 865-974-9900.
NOTE: It is highly recommended to back up the code to a file and print it out. The codes may not remain available after you graduate/leave the university. On a Windows PC, you can access this option by going to Control Panel > Manage BitLocker > Back up your recovery key as shown below.
