PROPER TESTING FOR INTUNE JOIN
It is imperative that going forward we test every system, prior to issue, to be 100% sure that it has registered with and is responsive to Intune controls.
Verification of registration and function should be conducted using all three methods.
- After logging the device onto the network, sign in to Intune and go to Windows devices. Under Windows devices search the domain name of the system. (I.E. UTKFSxxxxxx) Once displayed, click on the device name and in the device overview verify that the last check in time is within the time period since you connected the device. This takes about 15 minutes to appear in Intune.
- On the Device, go to Settings, Accounts, Access Work or School. Towards the top of the page look for “utk.tennessee.edu, connected to UTK AD Domain”. Expand the section and verify that “Managed by University of Tennessee” is displayed on the Info line. Click the Info button and scroll down to verify that the device has successfully synced.
- In Intune, click on the device and open the Overview. Issue a restart and verify that the device responds and successfully restarts. (This can take 10 to 20 minutes depending on the cycle in Intune.)
If any of these three checks fail, the device is not properly registered and functional with the domain and Intune. A ticket should then be opened with OIT stating that ‘device name’ is not working with Intune.
THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT DEVICES:
Preregistered systems that have fallen out of Intune should reappear in about 20 minutes after being turned on and connected to the network. (‘25 CUP laptops) The default inactive time is 270 days. Once accessible, test as detailed.
Newly purchased, non-autopilot devices will need joined to AD and logged in to run the correct join GPO. Once logged in, verify the device has created entries in Entra. If no entries are created repeat the log in and verify that the Intune join policy has run with GPResult. It will take at least 90 minutes or longer to appear in Intune. Now test as detailed.
To reimage a device, manually unjoin from AD and delete. Open a ticket with OIT to have the device deleted from Intune and Entra. Once the ticket is completed, reimage device as per policy and treat it as newly purchased device. (see above) Test as detailed.
