IPAD REGISTRATION AND PROVISIONING
For newly purchased devices: (Do not power on the device until step 6)
All Facilities owned iPads must be purchased from Voltech and enrolled in ASM by Voltech upon purchase.
(The steps highlighted in gray will need to be done by Steven or Wayne for now due to ASM access restrictions.)
1. Log into SnipeIT, NetReg, Apple School Manager (ASM) and InTune
- In ASM: assign device management and locate asset information.
- Go to DEVICES and locate IPAD by serial number
- For “Device Management Service” you should see “UTK-FS” If not, Follow these steps to change it:
- Click the three dots at the top right of the device page.
- Select “Assign Device Management”
- From the dropdown, select UTK-FS and click “Continue” and “Confirm”
(Note: Most of the information you need for SnipeIT and Netreg can be easily copied and pasted from the ASM device page.)
2. In SnipeIT: record new device
(If device model and generation is not present in SnipeIT, add new asset model with appropriate picture)
- Create new Asset
- Set company to UTK_Facilities_Services
- Record Serial Number
- Select the correct Model from drop down
- Set Status to NEEDS REPAIR OR REIMAGE
- Add any appropriate notes (I.E. denote funding, year etc.)
- Set default location (For unassigned set Facilities Services 01-122)
- Add asset Name as utk-fs-ios-“serial number”
- Add warranty months according to Apple Care contract.
- SAVE
- Go back to Snipe asset and print labels for device and case when saved and completed
- Attach any invoices, signed UT Cell Service forms or supporting documents to the asset in Snipe
- Using a password generator, create a local password.
(Use letters and numbers, capitalized and lowercase only – 6 characters long)

Record the local password in SnipeIT
3. In NetReg: register new device
- Add Location and Room
- Add Device Label (utk-fs-ios-“Serial Number”)
- Add Serial Number
- UT Owned is “YES” and add SMAINOR as NetID
- Add to fsmobile resource group
- Set (utk-fs-ios-“Serial Number”) as hostname and select fs.utk.edu for domain
- Add MAC Address
- SAVE
4. In InTune: Sync and Verify device is available to be enrolled.
- Select DEVICES then IOS/IPAD
- Select ENROLLMENT, then ENROLLMENT PROGRAM TOKENS
- Click on UTK-FS
- Select DEVICES and then choose to SYNC.
- This will take anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes
- Once synced, search by Serial Number.
(Verify your device shows up in this list before proceeding)
5. Open the iPad Box.
6. On iPad: Start IPAD setup
(Allow time for iPad to sync and begin installing apps. Once Policy syncs you will be prompted to set a lock screen password.)

Proceed through setup and connect to UT OPEN Wi-FI

You may need to turn off “private addressing” for UT-Open if it doesn’t happen automatically.

Proceed to enroll and setup the iPad

Set the lock screen password to the one you generated and saced in snipe earlier.

Accessories: If you purchased this iPad with a case, pencil or other accessories, add those to snipe and assign them to the device (preferably not the person)
For devices that were previously enrolled: (for example, if a user returns a device that is no longer needed.)
- Make sure the user has recovered all their important data from the device. The following steps will destroy all locally stored data.
- Login to intune
- Navigate to Devices > All devices
- Search for the device by serial and open it’s device management page.
- Click “Wipe” and confirm.
- Wait for the device to factory reset.
- Proceed above from step 7 “On iPad: Start IPAD setup”
