This brief article will walk you through the steps for manually assigning Teams meeting participants to a breakout room.

Instructions

Once you have created your breakout rooms (see instructions for Microsoft Teams: Creating Breakout Rooms Prior to a Meeting):

  1. Select Assign Participants.

  1. Select Manually Assign People.
  2. Select Next.

Participants will be listed with an unassigned room. You have three options.

  1. Assign each participant individually.

    1. Select the Room drop-down next to each name.
    2. Select the preferred room.

  1. Assign in bulk.
    1. Select the checkbox next to each name to assign them to a single room.
    2. Select the room from the Select a Room drop-down.

  1. Assign by Shuffling. You also have an option to shuffle (and assign) Everyone or Only Unassigned People.
    1. Select the Shuffle drop-down.
    2. Select Only Unassigned People.

  1. All remaining participants will be randomly assigned rooms.

  1. Select Save when all room assignments are completed.
