Overview

Instructors can ask students to record breakout rooms in Microsoft Teams. Recordings must be done manually and will be available only to the instructor after the breakout room session is complete. Students will not have access to the chat history or the recording after they leave the breakout room. Recordings and Chats are saved to the instructor's OneDrive, not to the Team. Because the instructor has Copilot included in their Teams Premium license, they will have access to AI recap and transcript for the meeting. Chats do not appear until activity occurs, such as recording started, instructor announcement, or students typing in the chat. If no announcements, recording, or chats occur, the chat will not be created.

See the related articles section for instructions on how to set up the meeting and breakout rooms.

Note:
Leave these two settings as the default to ensure students have the ability to start recording:
  • Who can present: Everyone
  • Who can record and transcribe: Organizers, co-organizers, and presenters
