Why am I receiving this error message when logging in?

This error message appears when the system cannot verify the biometric authentication method associated with your account. Biometric authentication includes features such as Touch ID, Face ID, fingerprint recognition, or facial recognition.


Duo Mobile error message when the system cannot verify the biometric authentication method

You are most likely seeing this message because biometric authentication was originally set up on a different device than the one you are currently using to log in.

Instructions

  1. Open a web browser on a device where you have access to the Duo Mobile app and navigate to tiny.utk.edu/manage2fa
  2. Sign in with your UT Email and NetID Password.
  3. Select Add a device.
  4. Within the menu options, select Duo Mobile.

  1. Enter your phone number, agree to the terms and conditions, and verify the phone number you have entered.
  2. Ensure you have downloaded the Duo Mobile app on your device and select Next.
  3. Select Open Duo Mobile to connect your account.
