Proctorio: "Disable Extensions" Function in Proctorio

Summary

Proctorio's "Disable Extensions" feature helps prevent students from using browser extensions during Proctorio-enabled Quizzes.

Body

Overview

With the advent and increasing popularity of AI tools like ChatGPT in the last several months, a handful of developers have been working on ways to leverage these new tools into innovative ways to help students cheat on essays and exams.

One such example of a technology-enhanced method of cheating on an online exam in Canvas is Transcript, a Chrome browser extension.

In order to prevent this and other Chrome extensions from helping students cheat, Proctorio has added a new "Disable Extensions" feature to its secure feature set.

Instructions

The new feature is among the "Lock Down Options" that are provided when instructors set up Proctorio for a Canvas Quiz:

Click on the Disable Extensions option to block any browser extensions other than Proctorio's from running while a student takes a Proctorio-enabled Canvas Quiz.
