Canvas: Third Party Learning Application Authentication via Canvas

Summary

Authentication via Canvas for third-party tools

Body

Overview

There are a few third-party tools that use the user’s Canvas account to authenticate to their tool. Panopto and Zoom are examples of OIT-managed tools.

Information

Instructors can connect their Canvas course with a third-party tool to grant student access to course materials. Examples include Great River Learning, Pearson, and McGraw Hill. From the OIT side of Canvas, we have no way to verify these course pairings are set up and working. We have installed the tools on our end and verified they work at the system level. From that point on, it is up to the instructors to manage. Students will need to contact the instructor and/or the vendor for additional assistance.
