Overview
This article provides instructions for transferring your University of Tennessee Gmail and Google Drive data to a personal Gmail account. This process only works for transferring data from a school account to a personal account. You will not be able to use this process to transfer emails or files from a personal account to your UT Gmail account.
NOTE: If you receive the error "Transfer Your Content is only available to authorized G Suite for Education Accounts. Please contact your administrator, or sign in with another Google Account", you are likely signed in to multiple Gmail accounts. To fix this, you may need to sign out of your non-UTK accounts, use an incognito browser window, or use a different browser to use Google Takeout.
Instructions
- Go to takeout.google.com/transfer and sign in to your UT email account.
- Enter the destination email.
- Click Send Code.
- Sign in to the destination email account to retrieve the confirmation code.
- Open a new tab in your browser and go to gmail.com.
- In the upper-right corner of your screen, click the circle that has either your initials or your profile picture.
- Click Add Another Account.
- Sign in to the destination email account.
- The confirmation email will have the subject Verify Your Account.
- Click Get Confirmation Code in the confirmation email.
- This will open a new tab with the confirmation code.
- Copy the code and enter it on the Google Takeout Transfer screen. Then, click Verify.
- Select the items you want to transfer and click Start Transfer.
- By default, your Gmail messages and your Google Drive files will be transferred, but you can choose to only transfer data for one product if you prefer.
- The data will begin copying over to your personal Gmail account. This process can take a few minutes up to a week to finish.
- You will receive an email in the destination email account when the transfer starts and when the transfer is complete.
