Manage/Edit Your NetReg Entries
From NetReg, you can change or update a device label, ownership of devices, OS, Location, Room Number, Owner, Primary User, or Group.
- Go to https://netreg.utk.edu/my-devices/ and log in using your NetID and password.
- You will see a list of all the devices where you are the “owner.”
- Under the Edit column, select the pencil icon. Please note that IP Name, IP Address, and MAC cannot be updated.
- Device Label: Unique name for the device in NetReg.
- IP Name: Unique name in DNS for the device.
- IP Address: Unique string of numbers separated by periods that identifies the device on the network.
- MAC: Unique, physical hardware address.
- UT Owned: Was this device purchased with UT funds? Select No to change the status from UT Owned to Personally Owned.
- OS (optional): The device's operating system, e.g., Windows or Mac. If the applicable OS is not listed, select the closest option.
- Location: Campus building or off-campus.
- Room Number: Room number of the building. If not applicable, enter "0".
- Please Note: You must have a valid OS Name and Location. Select the appropriate OS name and location from the drop-down list. For campus buildings, you must also include a room number.
- Owner: The user who manages the device; may also be the day-to-day user.
- Primary User: The day-to-day user of the device.
- Group (optional): Special groups created within NetReg to aid in the management of multiple machines owned by a department or unit.
- When finished, select Update.
Helpful hints:
- *.nomad.utk.edu – refers to a device connected to the wireless network
- *.roam.utk.edu – refers to a laptop connected to a network port
- *..utk.edu – refers to a computer that is in your department’s domain (for example, bio.utk.edu and engr.utk.edu)
- Many laptops will have two entries, one for wireless and one for a wired network port. Both entries must be classified. If you have any questions or need assistance, contact the OIT HelpDesk.
Unregister a Device
- Go to https://netreg.utk.edu/my-devices/ and log in using your NetID and password.
- You will see a list of all the devices where you are the “owner.”
- Under the Unregister column, select the trash can icon.
- Select Unregister when prompted to confirm.
- You will receive a confirmation email once the device has been unregistered.
