This article will provide instructions on how to optimize media compatibility for narration in PowerPoint.

Body

Overview

If your students are having issues with your PowerPoint files created on a PC not playing embedded audio on Microsoft 365, you will need to optimize media compatibility.

NOTE: If the media in your presentation was inserted in a format that might have compatibility issues when played on another device, the Optimize Compatibility option will appear. If it doesn’t appear, you don’t have compatibility issues and are ready to share. For more information, see this article from Microsoft.

Instructions

  1. Open the PowerPoint file in the Desktop application. Select File from the tabs.
PowerPoint desktop app ribbon highlighting the File tab, which the user selects.
  2. Select Info in the menu and then select Optimize Media Compatibility
PowerPoint Info page showing the Optimize Media Compatibility option selected to fix audio and video playback issues
Note: This process can take a while depending on how many audio files you have embedded in your PPT file.
  3. Once the optimization process is complete. Upload your file to Microsoft 365 and share as normal.
