How do we handle a situation where a traveler splits a hotel with someone (or even 3 people), and the hotel or AirBnB didn't split those costs into separate receipts?

This can be handled one of two ways.  Either the bill can be paid in full by the person who booked the room and they can request reimbursement, or each traveler must provide some form of proof as to how much they each paid.  They can do this by providing credit/bank statements in addition to the hotel receipt. Or if they paid the person who booked the room directly via paypal or venmo - they can provide receipts from paypal/venmo in addition to the hotel receipt.

Best practice is that one person should pay for the lodging and request reimbursement for the entire amount.  The expense can be allocated on the expense report to other fund centers, if necessary.
